The Big Island of Hawaii has some of the best fishing in the world.
On almost any day of the year a large Pacific Blue Marlin can be caught off the
Kona coast.

K
ona is located on the lee side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Two large mountains nearly 14,000 feet high protect Kona from the trade winds making it possible to fish for large fish in very calm ocean waters. The water depth offshore of Kona drops dramatically. At just a few miles offshore youÃÓe at 6000 ft. deep and it keeps getting deeper after that. That's truly deep sea fishing. What this all means is you have world class charter sportfishing in the Hawaiian deep pacific with calm water.
Kona not only has world class ocean fishing but is one of the world's best vacation destinations. Should you book a charter, your Captain and crew can give you great advise for touring the island. Six species of billfish are found in Hawaii. Although Kona is famous for big fish like large Blue Marlin, other species of fish can also be caught. Yellowfin Tuna from 5 to 180 lbs can be caught. Also Mahi Mahi (Dorado), Ono (Wahoo), Aku (Skipjack Tuna),Kahala (Amberjack) and other species are plentiful here. Blue Marlin run all year. The large Yellowfin Tuna can be caught on any day of the year but are more plentiful during the summer months. Kona fisherman use a variety of techniques for catching fish. Trolling lures is probably the most popular style in Kona, but live bait is also popular. Kona also has many large species of fish that can be caught off the ledges and bottom such as amberjack or shark. When booking your charter ask what type of fishing you prefer. Some people are just interested in trolling for the large blue Marlin and others are happy to focus on small skipjack tuna or bottomfish near the ledges. |
